Hannover Re's Home Office accepted its first North American treaty risk in 1972, and has been writing North American business continuously since then. With an annual non-life reinsurance premium income of USD 1.5 billion, our North American book of business makes up a substantial portion of Hannover Re's overall portfolio. North America has, in fact, been designated as the Number One Priority Market for our Group.

Treaty reinsurance business emanating from North America is underwritten in our Home Office in Hannover, Germany.

Hannover Re Services USA, Inc. is located in Illinois; this office is staffed by experienced insurance professionals active in marketing activities as well as underwriting and claims audits.  Our audit team is a key asset in our overall underwriting process; offering solid advice to both our underwriters and clients with regard to the business we reinsure. Our marketing team is a key factor in strengthening existing client relationships and building new ones.

As a full-service reinsurer, we write all lines of business and all types of treaties. These include structured reinsurance treaties, for which our Advanced Solutions team will be happy to be at your service.

Hannover Re is the only foreign reinsurer accredited in as many as 50 jurisdictions in the United States. Accredited status means trusteed status.
